TWO: THE STORY OF ROMAN & NYRO

THE PLOT THUS FAR

Combining over twelve years of footage and narrated by their twin sons, TWO: The Story of Roman & Nyro, follows legendary songwriter Desmond Child and his lifelong partner’s loving journey to create their new modern family.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Two” lets you know that it is really the story of two twin boys by its narration. Desmond Child and Curtis Shaw met Angela Whitaker 12 years ago. Through in-vitro fertilization, they crafted a deal to begin forming a new family. Having the kids explain this was an excellent touch, as you feel they are learning their personal history alongside the audience. However, they’re going off prompts written by their parents. Some might call it a puff piece, I call it hand holding.

Regardless of your personal feelings on the subject matter, it’s wonderful to see a family come together. It’s just that there is such a slog to get through how the family came to be, that you almost feel like you’re watching a rough cut pilot for a reality show. If you’re inclined to the Bravo crowd, then this might be right up your alley. Honestly, I don’t know how I feel about the movie. While the inclusion of the kids is a novel touch, I don’t like how everything feels staged in a fashion that would make Pyongyang squeamish. But, such is family movies about your kids. Bias is everywhere and it’s nice to see it met with love.

The DVD comes with extended interviews, music videos, outtakes and a look at Desmond and Curtis’s wedding as the special features. The A/V Quality is sharp for a documentary. The standard definition transfer really kicks it up a notch to the point that I believe an HD master must be in existence. The Dolby 5.1 track creates an excellent environment. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
