“Turn” is a sleeper show on AMC. It hasn’t quite hit its stride, but I see the possibility of growth. It turns out that Jamie Bell works well as a lead. I guess that the era and the fact that it’s British-occupied Long Island allows me to buy him as an early American. Still, I feel the show needs to pay attention to the real history of the Culper Ring. Yeah, kids…it was a real organization.
Espionage in America always gets painted with the brush of fantasy. There at times during the show where you get the dirty version of what warfare was like on the frontier. Dirty hits and moving through the wild without detection doesn’t end pretty. Still, I watch this show and I feel that we could’ve got something better out of HBO or Showtime. But, AMC seems to be the only outlet still into period pieces.
The Blu-Ray comes with a Digital HD copy, featurettes and deleted scenes as the special features. The A/V Quality is pretty amazing for recent TV on Blu. The 1080p transfer is strong for basic cable. Plus, the Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track gets to support dialogue and environmental ambiance equally. In the end, it’s worth a purchase.
