Disney Pixar proudly presents a wacky new tale featuring all your favorite characters from the Toy Story films. Join Woody, Buzz, Jessie and their pals in a frighteningly fun animated adventure. What starts out as an exciting road trip for the Toy Story gang takes an unexpected turn for the worse following a detour to a roadside motel. After Mr. Potato Head suddenly disappears, his friends find themselves caught up in a hilarious mystery that must be solved before they suffer the same fate in this thrilling Toy Story OF TERROR!

“Toy Story of Terror” is a 22 minute special given its solo Blu-Ray release in time for the Halloween season. For all of those wondering why we didn’t get the extended cut of Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Return to Oz getting a Blu-Ray release or any news on bringing the classic Disney syndicated cartoons to HD. But, we’ve got the latest Pixar special. It’s a great special and it assembles most of the talent from Toy Story 3 to keep that world building going. However, the issue of relevance keeps creeping into my mind.

Pixar doesn’t have to answer to anyone, as they are the shot in the arm that has changed the Disney dynamic for the last generation. It’s just can we build an event around a Holiday Special that serves up most of the key points of “Toy Story 2”. Too many recalls can water down a franchise’s appeal. Still, it’s funny that we get a kid friendly horror tale about a creepy collector stealing things that belong to kids. I do love a sly commentary when I can find one.

The Blu-Ray comes with a Digital HD copy, vintage commercials, deleted scenes, commentary and bonus shorts as the special features. The A/V Quality is spectacular for a Holiday Special. The DTS-HD 7.1 master audio track is stunning and blows away the ABC HD broadcast. The same goes for the crystal clear 1080p transfer. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
