The Phenomenon [Movie review]

The Phenomenon will convince you that UFOs are serious and real. If that doesn’t work, then I have a dozen Joe Rogan listeners who just ditched Axe body spray and are now into Bob Lazar. While it’s fascinating to see how many government officials are suddenly willing to discuss these matters, UFO documentaries always leave me scratching my head.

Modern documentaries often go for sensationalism in order to entice average audiences. But, the film takes substantial and supported historical instances of UFO encounters. The Phenomenon is dedicated to removing the tin foil hat stuff from the UFO truth. The past decade has spent having mass media and politicians trying to make it all sound like garbage.

That’s why the various government officials willing to go on camera is astounding. For an American audience that long since seen through the lies told about Marijuana and other things, a healthy portion of the audience still believes UFOs not to exist. But, what is it going to take? You have people ranging from Harry Reid to Air Force top brass saying all of this happened. I would love to have seen some debunkers interviews, but that’s not what the documentary is trying to do.

The Phenomenon [Movie review] 1

Ultimately, your enjoyment of The Phenomenon will depend on your ability to follow UFOs. Having grown up in a generation that got besieged with FOX Alien Autopsy specials, VHS mail order tapes and various kooks in the Internet’s early days trying to sell a tall tale…it might be a bridge too far. But, I say this to all doubters.

The nature of conspiracy is based in its ability to stay hidden and work among a group of people. As time goes on and technology increases, the nature of being hidden will continue to diminish. There have been stories about UFOs for decades, but now everyone has a chance to air out the bullshit and the facts.

The Phenomenon deals firmly in the facts, but allows a smidge of speculation to work into the mix. I wish that we had more documentaries like this. But, I’ll take this one for what it is and appreciate that it exists.

The Phenomenon is available digitally on October 6th, 2020
