The Man in My Basement Premieres September 26 on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+
Hulu and Hulu on Disney+ will debut the psychological thriller The Man in My Basement on Friday, September 26, 2025.
Directed by Nadia Latif and co-written with Walter Mosley, the film adapts Mosley’s acclaimed novel into a tense exploration of family trauma, race, and buried secrets.
The cast includes Corey Hawkins (In the Heights), Willem Dafoe (Poor Things), Anna Diop (Nanny), Jonathan Ajayi, Gershwyn Eustache Jnr., Pamela Nomvete, and Tamara Lawrance. Producers include Diane Houslin, John Giwa-Amu, Dave Bishop, and Len Rowles.
Synopsis: Charles Blakey (Hawkins), facing foreclosure on his family’s Sag Harbor home, accepts a mysterious offer from businessman Anniston Bennet (Dafoe): rent out his basement for the summer in exchange for enough money to save the house. The deal quickly unravels into a disturbing psychological puzzle rooted in history, identity, and evil itself.
The project comes from Andscape, the Black content studio under The Walt Disney Company focused on telling stories across sports, culture, film, and music.
