The Baseball Project and The Minus 5 Announce Summer Doubleheader Tour 2025

The Baseball Project and The Minus 5 are teaming up for the Summer Doubleheader Tour 2025, a 17-date run that celebrates the 10th anniversary of their co-release Redeyed in Austin (Yep Roc, 2015), just as the MLB playoff push gets weird and the wild card math gets desperate.

Tour kicks off September 10 in Jacksonville, FL, and closes out September 30 in Atlanta, GA—a full slate of sweaty clubs, beer-forward venues, and one festival stop in Louisville that might give you sunstroke and spiritual clarity.

The Lineup: Baseball Nerds, Alt-Rock Legends

The Baseball Project isn’t just some novelty band. It’s a supergroup made up of:

Scott McCaughey (The Minus 5, Young Fresh Fellows)
Steve Wynn (The Dream Syndicate)
Linda Pitmon (Steve Wynn & The Miracle 3)
Peter Buck and Mike Mills (R.E.M., aka “we’re not worthy”)

That’s not a fantasy lineup—that’s a ’90s alt-rock Hall of Fame induction ceremony with guitars instead of speeches.

McCaughey, Pitmon, and Buck are in roughly 37 bands together at any given time (Filthy Friends, Luke Haines & Peter Buck, The Minus 5). Mike Mills still moonlights in the Big Star legacy band. Steve Wynn? Just finished a memoir tour across Europe and the U.S., because apparently he wasn’t busy enough.

To coincide with Ichiro Suzuki’s induction into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, The Baseball Project and Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie) have released a split 7”:

Proceeds go to Seattle’s Teen Feed, because apparently being legends and thoughtful isn’t mutually exclusive.

What Is This Band Even?

Formed in 2007, The Baseball Project writes actual songs about baseball that are equal parts funny, weirdly touching, and historically deep-cut in ways that will make MLB nerds cry with joy.

Whether it’s:

“The Babe”
“Pasqual on the Perimeter” (a tribute to the time Pasqual Perez got lost on the way to a Braves game)
or the gloriously rambling “They Played Baseball,” which rattles off players like a Ken Burns doc being scored by Big Star
