The lives of the residents of an idyllic French alpine village are forever changed when a seemingly random collection of people who have been dead for several years inexplicably come back to life and try to integrate themselves into their former lives in THE RETURNED, a gripping and stylish supernatural drama series from France.
Directed by Fabrice Gobert and Frédéric Mermound, the eight-part French series THE RETURNED is based on the 2004 feature film Les Revenants by Robin Campillo.
Following the series’ highly anticipated premiere on Sundance Channel, Music Box Films Home Entertainment will release the first of 8 weekly episodes of THE RETURNED beginning Friday, November 1st on Digital Platforms. Each subsequent episode will be released every Friday, day after broadcast, through December 20th.
The complete series will be released on DVD and Blu-ray disc sets beginning January 21, 2014 [more information to be announced].
In a small French mountain town, a group of people find themselves in a state of confusion as they attempt to return to their homes. What they do not yet know is that they have been dead for several years, and no one is expecting them back. As “The Returned” struggle to reintegrate with their families and past lovers, buried secrets emerge and new mysteries develop as they grapple with a miraculous and sinister new reality. But it seems they are not the only ones to have returned from the dead, as their arrival coincides with a series of gruesome murders which bear a chilling resemblance to the work of a serial killer from the past.
An unprecedented smash hit when its eight hour-long installments premiered on French television last year, THE RETURNED quickly went on to grand success in the English market. THE INDEPENDENT proclaimed that “The Returned is… one of the greatest, creepiest, most compelling shows brought to screens this year,” while THE TELEGRAPH declared that THE RETURNED is, “Probably the most stylish thing you’ll see on TV this year.” THE RETURNED made its UK television premiere in June, 2013, becoming the highest rated subtitled drama on any UK channel in nearly a decade.
Creepy, compelling and startlingly original, THE RETURNED is about to arrive. And dead or alive, you’d better be ready, because it’s going to be a homecoming unlike any other you’ve ever experienced!
