Independent Project Records (IPR) and pioneering New York City shoegaze trio Springhouse proudly announce today’s release of their acclaimed 12-track album, From Now to OK, in deluxe reissue formats. Originally issued as a limited-edition CD by IPR in 2008, this newly remastered edition is available on vinyl (black and clear orange variants), CD, and digital platforms. Additionally, it includes a bonus CD featuring previously unreleased demos, instrumentals, and live tracks.

All formats boast distinctive, hand-crafted packaging designed by IPR’s co-owner and acclaimed graphic designer Bruce Licher. A highly collectible translucent green tint vinyl edition (limited to 200 copies) was previously released exclusively for RSD Black Friday in November 2024.

Who is Springhouse?

Springhouse first rose to prominence as the earliest major-signed, nationally touring U.S. shoegaze band, debuting with a hit single in 1990 on Singles Only (founded by Bob Mould, Maxwell’s Steve Fallon, and DJ Nick Hill). The trio signed to Caroline Records (a Virgin Records subsidiary), releasing two acclaimed albums: Land Falls (1991), praised for its striking Bruce Licher artwork, and Postcards From the Arctic (1993).

Gaining national attention with their MTV video “Layers” and extensive radio airplay, Springhouse shared stages across the country with renowned acts such as Ride, House of Love, The Chills, Psychedelic Furs, Belly, and Lemonheads.

Singer-songwriter Mitch Friedland’s unique acoustic guitar approach—nylon-stringed instruments processed through customized effects pedals and alternate tunings—distinguished Springhouse within the dream-pop and shoegaze scene. Bassist Larry Heinemann and drummer Jack Rabid contributed an agile, punk-inspired rhythm section, elevating the band’s melodic and textured sound.

From Now to OK:

This reissue captures Springhouse embracing a more acoustic, folk-rock-infused approach while maintaining their signature melodic textures. Deeply influenced by late ’60s icons like The Beatles and Nick Drake, From Now to OK highlights the band’s dynamic songwriting and richly layered arrangements.

Springhouse’s music continues to resonate with fans, solidifying their legacy among the finest indie rock bands of the pre-Nirvana era—and beyond.
