SPIDER

SPIDER 1

SPIDER REVIEWED

“Spider” plays like a slightly filthier take on “Valerie and Her Week of Wonders”. There is attempts to evoke the Virgin Mary, ladies turning into spiders and so much young sexuality. For a film that was produced near the end of the Soviet Union, it wants to have the best of both worlds. Latvia was still a Bloc nation, but Western influence allowed for a sense of liberty never imagined. Glasnot had taken over, but so much of this movie hung on just trying to make sense of a rather tastefully nude young woman. It’s interesting, but it’s one that I will have to revisit in the future.
