SONS OF LIBERTY

SONS OF LIBERTY 17

“Sons of Liberty” fulfills that Memorial Day itch of watching overlong TV historical fiction about past wars. While the Battle for Texas rages live on TV tonight, I settle in for the founding of America via History Channel. What I didn’t expect was a network TV level superhero take on the American Revolution. I’m not ready to dismiss it, but I appreciate the oddity of the program.

If you’re looking for an accurate portrayal of the time, I’d recommend picking up HBO’s “John Adams” mini-series. For now, I have to enjoy the mini inaccuracies and push to create a manpower history take. It handles that stance far greater than “Assassin’s Creed 3”. That being said, I’m not willing to start patting people on the back. Still, it’s cool to have Henry Thomas playing John Adams.

The Blu-Ray comes with a Digital HD copy and never-before-seen featurettes as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong for a TV drama that was originally broadcast in HD. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track makes the battles come to life. Plus, it makes the original TV presentation look warmed over. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to history nerds.
