Shout! Factory, a multi-platform media company, and DHX Media, the world’s leading independent, pure-play children’s content company, announced a new agreement to bring superstar Gwen Stefani’s animated series KUU KUU HARAJUKU to the home entertainment marketplace in North America. The announcement was made today by Shout! Factory’s founders Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos; and Mark Shoeman, Territory Manager at DHX Media.
This new multi-year alliance provides Shout! Factory with exclusive home entertainment distribution rights (DVD and Blu-ray™) in the U.S. and Canada to all 26 episodes of KUU KUU HARAJUKU, co-created and executive produced by Gwen Stefani. Shout! Factory plans a strategic rollout of this series in 2017 through Shout’s kids & family imprint, Shout! Factory Kids.
Mark Shoeman, Territory Manager at DHX Media, said: “The US market is a huge territory for us and one where Kuu Kuu Harajuku is proving to be widely popular with its audience on Nickelodeon, so it was crucial for us to appoint a strong home entertainment company in the region. Shout! Factory understands the market, and importantly for us, the kids’ sector, and we feel they are the ideal company to take this highly original series beyond broadcast into DVD.”
“We are incredibly excited about this new relationship with DHX Media and look forward to presenting this imaginative and highly entertaining series on family home entertainment shelves,” said Melissa Boag, Senior Vice President of Kids & Family Entertainment at Shout! Factory.
Animated series KUU KUU HARAJUKU follows the fun-filled adventures of the band HJ5 – Love, Angel, Music, Baby and G – through their super cute world of music, fashion and style. The inspiration for this popular animated series came from Grammy® Award-winning musician Stefani who wanted to create an animated series for girls that encourages and celebrates creative self-expression, imagination and individuality. The show’s setting is inspired by the exuberant street fashion and creative youth culture of the Harajuku district but it takes place in a magical fantasy world like nothing you’ve ever seen before. KUU KUU HARAJUKU currently airs on Nickelodeon in the U.S. and on Family Channel in Canada.
KUU KUU HARAJUKU is co-created and produced by Moody Street Kids (Australia), Vision Animation (Malaysia) and Gwen Stefani and commissioned by Network Ten with investment funding from Film Victoria (Australia) and MyCreative Ventures (Malaysia). DHX Media handles international distribution for the series, and licensed the series to Shout! Factory.
