THE PLOT THUS FAR

Jason Momoa of Game Of Thrones, The Red Road and Conan the Barbarian makes his directorial debut and stars in this intense road movie as Wolf, a Native American on the run after avenging his mother’s murder. As he flees across the desolate American West on his motorcycle, he’ll discover that justice has a cost. Wolf’s search for redemption will reveal secrets and take him on a journey where the roads have some very unexpected turns. Robert Homer Mollohan, Lisa Bonet, Michael Raymond-James (Once Upon A Time), Timothy V. Murphy (Sons Of Anarchy), Sarah Shahi (Person Of Interest), and Wes Studi (The Last of Mohicans) co-star in a powerful story of family, strangers, pride and penance. Road to Paloma is co-written and produced by Jason Momoa.

WHAT WE THOUGHT

“Road to Paloma” is a film about Robert Wolf’s desperate need for justice. It doesn’t matter that he got what he wants, as everything comes with a major price. Jason Momoa is really finding his voice as an emerging talent. I appreciate that WWE Studios got involved in a film that falls outside of their comfort zone. This could’ve been another movie like “12 Rounds”, but Momoa dares to be something different. He wants to show that vengeance is a messy path.

Jason Momoa has shown that he’s more than a big brawler. He’s an outside voice that wants to blur racial expectations and find something that hasn’t been touched upon since the days of “Billy Jack”.  Everyone from Wes Studi to Sarah Shahi to Lisa Bonet brings such emotion to their roles that you can’t dismiss as some other motorcycle crime drama. The American Cinema needs more heroes like Wolf.

The Blu-Ray comes with a deleted scene as the special feature. The A/V Quality is sharp for an indie drama. The Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track makes the motorcycle action come to life. The 1080p transfer has a thin dull sheen, but it works for the film. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
