RED (4K ULTRA HD)

RED 4K REVIEWED

“Red” makes the most out of three comic issues. While it is a pretty standard old man action flick, there’s a degree of charm at play with this cast. The movie is pretty generic when you take away the quirks of the cast. This would become super apparent with the sequel. However, this is an action film carried by chemistry and Malkovich chewing every chunk of scenery. He was almost enough to make Willis seem human.

On 4K, the film has never looked better. The push to produce 4K discs in Dolby Vision allows for a smoother film presentation that feels closer to the DCP style you see in a traditional digital theater. Too often, early 4K discs either look crushed or seem like upconverted Blus. We’re still pretty new into the 4K push, but this disc and its cousins seem to be the first wave in a new approach. Much like how Lionsgate turned early Blu-rays on their ear with their audio push, something magical is happening here. Now, let’s get more than 10 Dolby Vision discs out to market, people.
