A female sports drama set in the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Nora is that girl: the one who works overtime, helps out her family by all means, and leaves little for herself. She can’t even fathom a love interest. With her one free hour a day, she takes out life’s hardships at the local mixed martial arts gym, where she is no longer who she is, if just for that hour. When complications in her real life cause it to crumble, she is lead to enter a championship tournament as a novice. But with life outside of the ring becoming harder and harder, will she even make it to the competition without succumbing to the violence in her life outside of the ring?
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR|BAILEY KOBE
As an Asian-American male, growing up in martial arts, these are the girls that were in my gym. Most of them in there for reasons that stunned me – the violence in their lives that brought them into an MMA gym.
I had not seen these friends on screen before. And with so few female-led sports dramas, I wanted to tell their stories, in my unique way. Every fight sequence is as dramatic as a dialogue scene, and every dialogue scene as violent as a fight sequence.
As a growing Asian-American Writer/Director, Kobe has worked under industry greats including legendary executive Gareth Wigan (Star Wars, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon) and Anthony Russo of the Russo Brothers (Arrested Development, Community, Captain America, Avengers).
Given his background as an English major before film school, he loves literary adaptation, successfully adapting novels and plays for studio projects of Madame Tussaud, Nobel Prize winner Muhammed Yunus, and hit French play “Regarde Moi!”
He is currently adapting an Oprah’s Top Booklist novel for the screen after placing pilot screenplays as a semi- finalist in the Austin Film Festival, as a finalist for CBS, and at Sundance.
His work has been featured in a 12-page spread in Sound and Picture magazine for his visual flair, as well as Splash Magazine, LA Parent. LA-ist, Geek Rebellion, The Boston Globe, Vimeo Staff Picks, Nowness, Funny or Die front page, HULU most-popular, and iTunes front-page.
