Cult Epics brings Scorpio Films: The Dutch Sex Wave Collection to Blu-ray on October 29th
Before we talk about this weekend’s movie news, I wanted to thank all of the studios and PR partners that share information with us. Without them, we’d be lost. Well, not lost. More than likely, I would be talking about deeply insular stuff that I love and everyone else would be groaning.
Not everyone is into Marvel 70s art, painted movie posters and Pittsburgh Dad. But, I digress.
Thanks to everyone that does their best to help us out.

“Press Play,” A Music Driven Romance Starring Clara Rugaard, Lewis Pullman, Lyrica Okano and Danny Glover
It was revealed today that CJ Entertainment is partnering with Jonathan Schwartz (THE VANISHING OF SIDNEY HALL, LIKE CRAZY), Josh Boone (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, THE NEW MUTANTS) and Logan Lerman (FURY, THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER) to bring first-time writer/director Greg Björkman’s music-driven romantic drama PRESS PLAY to life.
Clara Rugaard (I AM MOTHER), Lewis Pullman (TOP GUN: MAVERICK, BAD TIMES AT THE EL ROYALE), Lyrica Okano (Marvel’s RUNAWAYS) and Danny Glover (LETHAL WEAPON franchise) will star in the film about a young woman (Rugaard) who has a chance to save the love of her life (Pullman) when she discovers the mixtape they made together can transport her back in time.
Björkman and James Bachelor wrote the screenplay (from a story by Josh Boone) and Björkman will direct PRESS PLAY, marking his directorial debut. CJ Entertainment, Korea’s leading entertainment conglomerate, is financing and producing the film. Producers are CJ’s Head of US Productions Francis Chung, Jonathan Schwartz, Josh Boone and Logan Lerman. Executive producers are Jerry Ko, Head of International at CJ, and Paul Davis. Fred Lee, Ini Chung and Mina Hwang are co-producing for the company.
The movie will shoot in Hawaii with principal photography slated to commence mid-October.
CJ’s Francis Chung said, “We’ve always been looking for the right music film to do, as these types of movies do exceptionally well in Asia. When we heard Greg’s vision, we knew immediately that this was the one. On top of that, with Jonathan, Logan and Josh on board, we’re confident that we’ll create something truly magical.”
“Music has always been my magic carpet ride into the past,” said Josh Boone. “This story sprung from that idea – music as time travel.”
Jonathan Schwartz and Logan Lerman in a joint statement said: “Logan, Josh and I believe strongly in telling stories that grab your heart and make you feel. This is a universal story of lost love and trying to recapture the magic of first love. We are grateful to CJ Entertainment for being such a phenomenal partner and supporting us in every way possible.”
Greg Björkman is a Midwest native (Northern Chicago suburbs) and Los Angeles based first-time writer/director whose previous work stems from editorial and VFX (STUCK IN LOVE and THE FAULT IN OUR STARS).
Season Kent is the music supervisor for the film. Kent’s credits include SHAZAM, SUICIDE SQUAD, THE FAULT IN OUR STARS, and THE SPECTACULAR NOW. Meanwhile, Patrick J. Don Vito, fresh off his Academy Award® nomination for his work on GREEN BOOK, will be the film’s Editor.
PRESS PLAY joins a rapidly expanding slate for CJ Entertainment, which over the last two years has amounted to 18 films in development and/or various stages of production and release. Recently completed films from CJ include two that were screened last month at the Toronto International Film Festival — Drake Doremus’ ENDINGS, BEGINNINGS starring Shailene Woodley, Jamie Dornan and Sebastian Stan (world premiere), and Bong Joon-ho’s Cannes Palme d’Or winner PARASITE, making its North American premiere prior to opening nationwide this month.
Among CJ’s upcoming films are EXTREME JOB, which is one of two current collaborations with Kevin Hart and Universal Pictures on English language remakes of Korean hits – the other being the female-driven dramedy, BYE, BYE, BYE, based on the Korean hit titled SUNNY.
Additional film projects include Academy Award® nominee Phyllis Nagy’s THE VANISHED; Drake Doremus’ AURORA; the horror film HOUSEMAID, being written by Academy Award® winner Geoffrey Fletcher; an English-language remake of South Korean box office hit THE MERCILESS – a CJ Entertainment produced and distributed crime thriller that redefined a genre; and the recently completed HIDE AND SEEK, directed by Joel David Moore and starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers – a remake of the 2013 Korean social horror-thriller that was a monster hit.
The production deal for PRESS PLAY was negotiated by Adam Mehr at Pryor Cashman on behalf of CJ Entertainment. Clara Rugaard is represented by CAA, United Agents and Ziffren Brittenham. Lewis Pullman is represented by ICM and Anonymous Content. Lyrica Okano is represented by Innovative Artists and Jackoway Austen. Danny Glover is represented by Gersh and Principal Entertainment. Greg Björkman is represented by Jackoway Austen.

Cinedigm Acquires the Adventurous New Comedy SPY INTERVENTION
Cinedigm Corp. announced that it has acquired North American rights to SPY INTERVENTION, a spy comedy from the Producer of Salt and Enchanted, Sunil Perkash, and director Drew Mylrea, stars Drew Van Acker (TV’s “Pretty Little Liars”), Poppy Delevingne (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Blake Anderson (TV’s “Workaholics”), Brittany Furlan (We Are Your Friends), Max Silvestri (Table 19), and Natasha Bassett (Hail, Caesar!).
Cinedigm will release the film in select theaters, on demand and digital in February 2020, with a DVD release to follow later in the year.
“Spy Intervention is just such an adrenaline shot of pure entertainment. With wildly creative and unique directing by Mylrea and the incredibly elevated performances by the entire cast, we anticipate audiences will be delighted with this clever and witty film,” said Sunil Perkash, adding “The incredible creative team behind our film has made a truly stand out independent film I am as proud of as any of my previous bigger studio releases.”
In the film written by Mark Famiglietti and Lane Garrison, after Corey Gage (Drew Van Acker), the world’s greatest spy suddenly meets Pam Grayson (Poppy Delevingne), the woman of his dreams, he decides to abandon his adventurous existence to settle for the security of suburbia – a quaint way of life he’s never known. However, it doesn’t take long for Corey to become completely bored with many dinner parties, bowling, and the monotony of mowing the lawn, and despite his best efforts to feign interest, his marriage has become more of a chore than a cheer.
When an evil plot to ruin the world arises, Corey’s former colleague and best spy friend (Blake Anderson) enacts a “spy intervention” to bring Corey back to his old life for one last mission. Corey is all too eager to jump at another chance to save the world, and possibly his listless marriage. Adding to the cast of rising stars are Brian Sacca (The Wolf of Wall Street), Dave Sheridan (Scary Movie), and Lane Garrison (Shooter).
“Spy Intervention is a reimaging of the spy genre,” said Yolanda Macias, Cinedigm’s Executive Vice-President of Acquisitions.” It has all the action and espionage audiences have come to expect plus a lot of comedy and some romance as well. Cinedigm can’t wait to provide a cinematic experience and blow the cover off this film in February.”
Sunil Perkash also notes that “while there were several other offers, Cinedigm won the bid with their passion and vision for the picture.”
The deal was negotiated by Josh Thomashow, Director of Acquisitions for Cinedigm, and Joanna Korshak and Christine D’Souza Gelb from Endeavor Content. International rights will be handled by Hyde Park Entertainment.
Perkash produces along with Ryan R. Johnson (Z for Zachariah), Martin Sprock (Under the Silverlake,) Akaash Yadav, and Anil Yadav. Drew Van Acker Executive Produced.
