PRESENTING PRINCESS SHAW REVIEWED
Princess Shaw aka Samantha Montgomery comes to life in “Presenting Princess Shaw”. However, there is this weird underpinning to the film. Basically, we follow Princess Shaw as she ages and goes through the entertainment system. She learns that her music is being used by another YouTube talent and she wants to collaborate. All the while, we follow her traveling for her work. Yet, no one asks…is she getting paid?
Before the documentary tries to answer that, the documentary is getting deep into what amounts to an EPK. She’s a young kid with braces that sounds like Macy Gray. Still, I’m not sure what the documentary wanted to do. There has been online discussion of how the film’s director was too close to the source material. But, I feel that everybody might’ve been in on the doc’s push. After all, how else can you break through anymore? A slice of real life puff piece disguised as a documentary is an easier sell than being one more voice in the Internet ocean.
So, did I watch a documentary or a well-crafted demo reel? I’m not sure.
