THE PLOT THUS FAR
The top rated series from HISTORY returns to DVD!
There is no better example of today’s pawnbrokers than the Harrison family’s Gold and Silver Pawn shop on the outskirts of Las Vegas the modern day Mecca for people in need of quick cash. Three generations of Harrison men clash with friendly camaraderie over items from classic cars to samurai swords. Here, everything has a history, and everything has a price. And you never know what’s going to walk through the door. PAWN STARS: VOLUME 5 features 16 episodes never-before-released on DVD including the usual assortment of oddities for the Harrisons to consider like a 31-ton car-crushing Robosaurus, a mandolin that could be worth over $100,000 and an authentic Batmobile.
DISC 1: Darth Pawn / Put Up Your Dukes / Pawn Illustrated / Striking a Chord / Harrison For President / Wise Guys / Robosaurus / Ah, Shoot!
DISC 2: Going Postal / Chummobile / Evel Genius / Pablo Pawncasso / Sub for Sale / Missile Attack / Not on My Watch
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Pawn Stars” keeps on rolling with very few changes. The youngest Harrison is a little skinnier now and they just did a massive crossover with the other reality hock shows. Other than that, it’s the Harrisons continuing to rip off the poor and desperate in Las Vegas. I know what you might say, it’s Las Vegas. This comes with the territory. It doesn’t make it any easier to handle.
The best episode in the release is almost a take-off of my favorite episode of “Get a Life”. The gang gets to take a chance on a one person submarine. Seeing as how 90% of the main cast is morbidly obese, this was going to be funny as hell. That lasted all of nine minutes. The rest of the volume was dedicated to watching Rick Harrison pay 2% of what something might go for at retail. Just like every other episode.
The DVD comes with no substantial special features. The A/V Quality is on par with past releases. However, I noticed almost no back channel support on the Dolby track. It’s not like it matters, but it’s noticeable when compared to past releases. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans of the show.
