“Paprika” could almost play like a comedy. A young woman wants to get married, but has no money to do it. So, she decides to go work at a whorehouse. While there, she learns about lesbianism and how to use sex toys. But, wait! Her boyfriend is a pimp and this was just an elaborate ruse to trap her in the sex slave trade? What’s a girl to do?!?
It’s really cool to see Brass take on an adaptation of Fanny Hill. However, it’s done with the restraint and flourish of an Emmanuelle movie. The shots are composed with the meticulous care of someone who worships tits and ass. But, such dedication will only ensure that this film goes unseen by most. Tinto Brass is an underground genius, but let’s be honest. You’re either onboard already or this is just another film that’s going to pass you by.
