“The Outing” opens with thieves trying to steal a lamp from an old lady’s home. They die and the lamp gets shipped off to a museum where it possesses a curator. Now, the Genie in the Curator decides to create a Night at the Museum with blood and guts. This was the kind of schlock that used to keep me glued to the VHS tapes at Kroger Video. Somehow, I missed out on this one as a kid.
“The Godsend” is about a little girl named Bonnie. When Bonnie shows up, other little kids disappear or die. This one is far more melodramatic than most recent Scream releases. Still, it’s brutal and evokes its era much better than its double feature pairing. Again, this is another film that slipped below the radar of many readers.
The Blu-Ray comes with no special features. However, both movies get fresh new HD transfers in glorious 1080p. The DTS-HD master audio tracks sound somewhere between mono and 2.0 stereo. Still, it’s accurate for the time. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to fans.
