OFFICE CHRISTMAS PARTY REVIEWED
“Office Christmas Party” was a film that hit theaters late last year. You might have seen some ads or Jennifer Aniston showing up on SNL. There was a sincere effort to promote it and it just kinda arrived. Is the film perfect? No. But, it deserved better than casual avoidance by Holiday audiences. Yeah, targeting an R rated office holiday party themed film isn’t going to get the biggest crowds. There still exists a general portion of the audience that needs a palate cleanser between Holiday event movies.
What makes this film work is balancing actors against like-minded comedic talents that can build a world. Restricting Kate McKinnon and giving her typical performance to a Jillian Bell or Vanessa Bayer produces new results. Swapping the expected roles for a Bateman and/or Anistion works. Hell, this film made me believe that Olivia Munn has an understanding and appreciation for technology. Years of G4 couldn’t convince me that Munn could find a power switch to save her life.
I was going to make that power switch joke about Aaron Rodgers, but I honestly believe that Munn knows her way around a Packer prostate. You get two cuts of the film presents in HD. Honestly, I stuck with the theatrical cut, as it worked for me. The line-a-rama stuff is getting old in modern comedies, as more and more comedians aren’t that great a Improv. You laughed at your own jokes? That’s great. Your movie costs $13 bucks for me to get in before 6pm. LAUGH AT ME, HOLLYWOOD ELITE! LAUGH AT ME! Solid performances all around and it made me chuckle. Thankfully, Paramount didn’t annoyingly hold this film back until Christmas 2017. We need the laughs now.
