NOWITZKI: THE PERFECT SHOT

The greatest German basketball player gets a documentary.

Dirk makes you believe in the power of German Giants.

“Nowitzki: The Perfect Shot” is my favorite basketball documentary since “Hoop Dreams”. A lot of that comes from the director who is a documentarian superstar in Germany, but has never really tackled American sports. Taking a mix of Dirk’s past training, family life and his NBA career; the documentary wants you to realize that there is a person behind the athlete. Especially when they tackle how horrible Dallas was when Dirk joined the team.

What’s so killer about the documentary is seeing how his genius coach trained Nowitzki. Using physics and studying Dirk’s size, they created an exercise routine that strengthened his perfect shot and his ability to angle over defenders. It’s fun to watch Nowitzki be modest and bond with his friends. That being said, I normally complain about how they didn’t dig up any dirt on the guy. But, I’m not sure if there is dirt on the guy.

The Blu-Ray comes with deleted scenes, interview and a trailer as the special features. The A/V Quality is strong for a sports documentary. The 1080p transfer is strong. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track is strong upfront, but it doesn’t do a ton with the back channels. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
