“Merchants of Doubt” is a careful study at a team of pundits-for-hire who sell out the public in favor of Big Business. Specifically, they get paid to target issues about Global Warming, Pharmaceutical impact and environmental tampering. They use their expertise to violently and verbally threaten scientists who speak out against them. They also go on the Right Wing talking circuit to manipulate public opinion. These Merchants of Doubt know what they are doing is wrong, but they play to the worst ignorance in humanity.
Robert Kenner has crafted a look at the worst people allowed to walk among us in the Western World. What makes it worse is how many of these guys were willing to go on camera and relish in what they do. The sheer joy in what they do is enough to make you gag. But, there’s also a degree of talent involved in making so many people work against their interests. I wish they made a version of this release that came with a simulator where you could choke a Lobbyist.
The Blu-Ray comes with deleted scenes, featurette and commentary as the special features. Documentaries never look amazing on Blu-Ray, but somehow this one does it. The 1080p transfer shines throughout a mix of interviews, archival footage and modern shot material. The DTS-HD 5.1 master audio track fully supports the dialogue. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to those that want to raise their blood pressure.
