MARY REILLY REVIEWED
“Mary Reilly” was an attempt to make people care about Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by telling the story through his maid’s perspective. While it’s amazing that Tristar attempted this in the 1990s, Julia Roberts is horrible in the lead. Hell, she almost kills a perfectly amazing Mr. Hyde performance from a rather creepy John Malkovich. Nobody remembers how amazing Malkovich was in this movie, because you had to endure Roberts trying to play lower-class Brit/Irish/chimney sweep. Sometimes you can line up an amazing director and script, but Julia Roberts still exists to horse dump all over it.
