“Marauders” plays things cheap, but true to form. American International used to make movies like this and I miss that feel. Former top actors working within deep genre material to cut together something dirtier than a major studio release. Chris Meloni plays a dirty cop with a heart of gold and I buy his team investigating the recent bank robbery. Bruce Willis does the best with his screen time. Hell, he’s becoming a balding Ray Milland before our eyes.
The film runs a striking resemblance to Triple 9 in terms of action staging. However, I feel like the limited cast and rushed feel of the action makes the movie seem cheap. Still, the bank robbery and shootouts is quite amazing. I just can’t help but feel that the limited scale bugged me on a Brechtian level. While I know that the B Movie fans will check this out, I have to recommend a rental to the casual fans. Don’t let this one pass you by. Lionsgate Premiere is continuing to impress me with its early releases, hopefully they can keep it up.
