JIGSAW

JIGSAW 1

JIGSAW REVIEWED

“Jigsaw” was fun, if not more of the same thing. The big twist this time is that a generous portion of the film happened a decade before the first film. Now, you get to jump back to the present with the survivors of the main Saw films. If you don’t recognize any of them, nobody is going to penalize you. The fact that they’re relying on Canadian TV actors to pad out the cast should tell you something. Rennie, the former Smallville Supergirl and the other forensic guy do a good job. However, nothing really adds up.

We learn something secret about new victims and characters that we ignored. Then, Tobin Bell gets to toy with us about being alive or not. From there, it’s more set pieces and room for the directors to stretch the visuals. Ultimately, it’s yet another attempt to milk the Dr. Phibes cow to produce something different. While I love watching sweet kills, there’s nothing that impressive here. But, if you want to watch a horror movie in January…this could do it for you. That Dolby Atmos track is sick, though.
