THE INTERVENTION REVIEWED
“The Intervention” is another relationship movie where couples talk. Clea DuVall makes her writing and directing debut here. It’s not a bad effort, it’s just that I spent the first hour of the film wondering why these kinds of movies are starting to clutter up American Indie cinema now. Natasha Lyonne, DuVall, Cobie Smulders and Alia Shawkat are all quite amazing in the film. But, what is a strong performance if the material is ultimately inconsequential?
When the deep dark secrets start coming out and marriages are threatened, I’m interested. Then, I stop caring. As mature as I like to think that I am, I just tune out when fictional or real people complain about their lives. It’s not that I’m self absorbed, it’s just that I want to hear something different. Honestly, I could’ve seen this film having more success as a really short-run play.
