INSIDE AMY SCHUMER SEASON 4 REVIEWED
“Inside Amy Schumer” had a great deal of promise upon its debut. Now, I see hints of it shining through the odd sketch. What I mainly see is a former stand-up turned media star turned over-saturated entity whipping out a soapbox on basic cable. But, we knew this was coming. It happens to every comedic talent that isn’t Dave Chappelle or Key & Peele. I guess that you have to be an African American comedian to have a proper sense of timing for your Comedy Central show.
For every one sketch that works, there are about 5 that eat it hard. Like most comedians that can’t nail down what works, the topics tend to overpower the jokes. Whether it’s a girl empowerment song, a lizard surgery sketch or riffing on MTV’s Catfish; you’ll stop caring about a third of the way through the scene. Plus, it took about 3 hours for the show’s theme to become the equivalent of a dorm room fire alarm. How am I just noticing this after three seasons?
Fans will dig it, but everyone else should probably avoid it for now.
