“Inside Amy Schumer” enters its third season aware of itself. What do I mean about that? Well, when a comedian hits their peak year and starts becoming mainstream, they play to certain ideas. They go bigger, add more celeb guest stars and try to be a bit more ambitious. Case in point, the prolonged 12 Angry Men episode with a stunning jury that could’ve rivaled any non parody performance. But, what does it all mean?
When Chappelle was approaching this level of fame, he left for Africa. Amy Schumer has taken to it like a modern maverick with an Old World love of notoriety. From the opening music video about butt fascination to the Last Fuckable Day and the season MVP moments with Jennifer Coolidge at the Beauty Pageant…it’s been awhile since a comedian just went for it. She still suffers from the same inability to end a sketch ala every modern bit of comedy since 2001.
The DVD comes with an exclusive unaired sketch, unaired interviews and outtakes as the special features. The A/V Quality is on par with the last double season DVD release. Still, I want an HD release. The show is broadcast in 1080 and we deserve that on home video. In the end, I’d still recommend a purchase.
