Two seemingly unconnected souls from different corners of the United States make a telepathic bond that allows them to see, hear and feel the others experiences, creating a bond that apparently can’t be broken.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“In Your Eyes” has such an amazing premise. It’s romantic Sci-Fi that wants to show a long-distance relationship at its bare roots. Two people connecting mentally over great distances, learn to share experiences and open up emotionally. For some reason, the bond can’t go away and that allows them to keep learning about themselves. For a time of the year when S&M is dominating the mainstream, I appreciate a kinder and gentler approach to cinematic love.
Zoe Kazan continues to amaze in the smaller films she carries on her back. That’s not to overlook Michael Stahl-David, but Kazan makes so much of the movie work by staying in her head. She’s a housewife in New England and he’s an ex-con in New Mexico, but they find each other. I needed this movie to wash a lot of terrible bigger budget romantic films out of my mind. I’ve talked a great deal about how I’m not a fan of Whedon, but he continues to impress me. While that sounds like a contradiction, I applaud any artist that is able to use his/her sway to get films like this release. If you’re wondering how you missed this on the theatrical circuit, the film only got a limited release on Vimeo. That’s not a bad thing, as it feels like I’m watching far more new cinema release on that service.
The DVD comes with no special features. The A/V Quality is on par for a quiet drama. The transfer is strong for a quiet film. The same goes for the Dolby audio track. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to the curious.
