“I Really Hate My Ex” is a fairly typical drama that tries to play as a comedy. The problem is that the central struggle is so harrowing in its base concept, that the laughs provided don’t cover the initial issue. Men be walking out on weddings and women be like “OH HELL NO”. I wish that I could break the film down in better terms, but that’s the best I’ve got after two viewings.
It’s nice to see Leon in a lead role, but I’m not sure what I think of this movie. If a low budget mismatched genre film like this was terrible, it would be far easier to dismiss it. I can’t do that. There’s a quality story, I just don’t feel like it was worth my time. Sometimes, you’ve got to step aside and realize that you’re not part of the target audience.
The DVD comes with a Digital HD copy and featurette as the special features. The A/V Quality is fairly strong for a drama like this. Sure, the comedy elements test the Dolby 5.1 track. It’s just not like this film is going to blow out your home theater. In the end, it’s worth a rental or a stream.
