THE PLOT THUS FAR
Three 40-something best friends from Los Angeles are flying to Paris when their plane makes an emergency landing in Cleveland. Realizing that all the norms from Los Angeles don’t apply anymore, they decide to celebrate a city that values real women and stay where they’re still considered hot.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Hot in Cleveland” continues as we have the women trying more stuff to stay relevant in Cleveland. They adopt animals, run for office and mess around with the FBI. It’s like the Kardashians, but most of the NBA hasn’t ran a train on them. The show continues to hit that demo of old women that want to stay relevant in a youth obsessed culture. Honestly, I appreciate it for being the closest return to The Golden Girls that we’re going to see in ages. These ladies are old, but not that OLD!
The fifth season continues to prattle through the same old storylines, but the cameos are funner. I also dig the stunt episodes for what they try to do. That being said, I’m shocked that the show has survived this long in the modern environment. While laughs are great, modern audiences demand something other than circumstances that would never happen outside of a home for the mentally disabled. Plus, who wants to hear older women waxing on about boning and their bodies. I know that it’s empowering for certain sections of the population, but we don’t want to hear it. It would be like if TV Land put on a show about Dennis Franz, Bryan Brown and Tony Danza talking about their dicks. Ain’t nobody got time for that!
The DVD comes with the animated and live episodes as the special features. The A/V Quality is pretty sharp for a recent TV comedy. The transfer is sharp enough. The same goes for the Dolby track. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase.
