GREASE 40th Anniversary Edition comes to 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital on April 24th with fully restored picture/sound & new content

It’s got a groove, it’s got a meaning…and it’s still a cultural phenomenon 40 years after its original release.  The iconic celebration of high school life in the 1950s, GREASE is the way you’ll be feeling with a new 40th Anniversary Edition on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital April 24, 2018 from Paramount Home Media Distribution.

Featuring an explosion of song and dance, as well as star-making performances from John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, GREASE made an indelible impact on popular culture.  40 years later, the film remains an enduring favorite as legions of new fans discover the memorable moments, sensational soundtrack and classic love story.  Boasting unforgettable songs including “Greased Lightnin,” “Look At Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” “Summer Nights,” “Hopelessly Devoted To You,” “Beauty School Drop Out” and, of course, “Grease,” the film is a timeless feel-good celebration.

Paramount worked with director Randal Kleiser to restore GREASE to its original vibrancy with the highest quality sound, picture resolution and color.  The original negative was scanned and received extensive clean up and color correction using previously unavailable digital restoration tools such as high dynamic range technology.  In addition, the audio was enhanced from a six-track mix created for an original 70mm release, giving the music more clarity.  The resulting picture and sound create an exceptional home viewing experience.

The GREASE 40th Anniversary Edition 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Combo Packs include the fully restored version of the film plus an all-new, in-depth exploration of the little-known origins of what would become a Broadway play and then a feature film and worldwide phenomenon.  “Grease: A Chicago Story” features new interviews with writer Jim Jacobs and original cast members of the Chicago show.  In addition, the discs include the original song the title sequence was animated to and an alternate ending salvaged from the original black & white 16mm work print discovered by director Randal Kleiser.

Both the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Combo Packs also feature more than an hour of previously released bonus material, including a sing-along, vintage interviews with the cast, deleted scenes and more.  Plus, the Blu-ray Combo comes in collectible packaging with 16 pages of images laid out like a high school yearbook.  In addition, a Grease Collection will be available in a Steelbook Locker, which includes the 40th Anniversary Blu-ray of Grease, as well as Grease 2 and Grease: Live! on Blu-ray for the first time.

Michele Soavi’s ‘The Church’ arrives on Blu-ray March 20

The third installment in Doppelgänger Releasing and Scorpion Releasing’s ongoing series of restored films from Italian horror auteur Dario Argento, THE CHURCH is a 1989 Gothic chiller about a group of visitors trapped in a medieval cathedral who are plagued by the evil demons that have been released from the crypt beneath it.

Co-produced and co-written by Dario Argento and directed by Argento protégé Michele Soavi, THE CHURCH makes its U.S. Blu-ray debut remastered with a high definition transfer and containing a new interview with co-star Asia Argento.

THE CHURCH is set in present-day Germany in an elaborate medieval cathedral that was once the site of a massacre of a village of supposed devil-worshippers by a band of crusading knights. When the church’s new librarian (Tomas Arana, The Sect) breaks the seal of the building’s crypt, he releases a cabal of evil spirits that are contained beneath it.  At the same time, the church’s automated mechanisms are triggered, causing its doors to close and trapping everyone inside. The laws of reality soon collapse as a nightmare takes hold and claims the lives of those within one by one, threatening to unleash a supernatural pestilence upon the world!

THE CHURCH is Michele  second directorial effort, following the 1987 slasher Stage Fright, his directorial debut. Prior to directing his first feature,  worked on Dario Argento’s films Tenebre Phenomena and Opera, and on such noteworthy projects as Lamberto Bava’s A Blade in the Dark and Demons and Terry Gilliam’s The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. With THE CHURCH (which was originally intended to be the third entry in Bava’s Demons series), Soavi was given an opportunity to fully explore his dreamy, stream-of-consciousness approach to the genre, complete with rich visuals, strong set pieces, and an overall creepy atmosphere. Soavi very quickly came to be considered a horror stylist in his own right.

THE CHURCH is also notable for its evocative soundtrack, composed by the late, great progressive rock musician Keith Emerson, minimalist virtuoso Philip Glass, and the Italian prog-rock band Goblin, who previously collaborated with  Argento on his films Suspiria and Tenebre.

Doppelgänger Releasing and Scorpion Releasing will release THE CHURCH on Blu-ray for the first time in the United States on March 20, 2018 (prebook February 13, 2018). The Blu-ray, which includes a new interview with actor Asia Argento and original theatrical trailers, carries the suggested retail price of $24.95.

UP IN SMOKE- 40th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray Combo Pack available April 10th

HOME VIDEO NEWS: KNOWING 4K, GREASE 4K, THE CHURCH, UP IN SMOKE, COCO, FACES PLACES, BOLDLY GO FORTH, I TONYA & MORE! 7

Fire up the home entertainment system and call your buds because the ultimate stoner comedy is celebrating its 40th anniversary.  The high-larious cannabis cultural epic  breakthrough UP IN SMOKE will “… grab you by the poo poo” all over again when it arrives on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD April 10, 2018 from Paramount Home Media Distribution.  A special Deluxe Collector’s Edition, pairing the Blu-ray with the original soundtrack on CD and VINYL LP in deluxe packaging, will arrive the following week on 4/20 from Rhino, featuring a newly recorded “2018 version” of the title song “Up In Smoke.”

In 1978, Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong made their feature film debut in UP IN SMOKE, the outrageously funny classic inspired by their now legendary comedy routines of the early ‘70s.  Following massive success with over 10 million comedy albums sold, four Grammy nominations and a win for Best Comedy Recording for “Los Cochinos,” Cheech and Chong took Hollywood by storm when UP IN SMOKE became a smash hit, establishing the pair as the reigning comedy duo of a new generation.  Today, the film still has viewers rolling in the aisles and maintains surprising cultural relevance four decades after its original release.

“The greatest thrill is making your first movie and this one has been seen and been influential all over the world for over forty years,” said Richard “Cheech” Marin.   “Up in Smoke started stoner movies and is still going strong so smoke it up one more time.”

“Where did the time go? 40 years ago we made low budget movies that grossed over 100 million and are still being watched all over the world! And it also helped legalize an important medicine,” said Thomas Chong.  “I am so proud that a movie bearing a title of a simple song I wrote would be so influential for so many years.”

In UP IN SMOKE Cheech and Chong play wannabe musicians and stoners who unwittingly smuggle a van made of marijuana from Mexico to L.A.  Their drug-laced humor keeps their spirits high as they unknowingly elude the police and meander their way to an outrageous finale at the Roxy Theatre in Hollywood where Cheech performs in a pink tutu and Chong plays drums in a red body suit with a Quaalude logo.

The UP IN SMOKE Blu-ray Combo Pack features a brand new short-form documentary entitled “How Pedro Met the Man: Up In Smoke at 40,” which chronicles the duo’s comedy history, as well as the origins and impact of the film itself. Capturing a complex and fascinating pop culture odyssey, the documentary incorporates new interviews with Cheech Marin, Tommy Chong and producer/director Lou Adler along with archival footage.  The Combo Pack is also loaded with previously released bonus material including deleted scenes, commentary, a music video and more.

The UP IN SMOKE Deluxe Collector’s Edition is presented in a 12×12 package, limited to 5,000 copies. The set pairs the Blu-ray with the original soundtrack on CD and VINYL LP, as well as a 7-inch picture disc, oversized “Up In Smoke” rolling papers, a film poster, and booklet with new essays by both Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong, along with rare and unseen photos. In addition to the new version of “Up In Smoke,” the CD also features another previously unreleased version of the song from 1978 with an additional Spanish verse by Cheech.

Oscar-nominated FACES PLACES Comes to Blu-ray on 3/6

HOME VIDEO NEWS: KNOWING 4K, GREASE 4K, THE CHURCH, UP IN SMOKE, COCO, FACES PLACES, BOLDLY GO FORTH, I TONYA & MORE! 9

She is a revered octogenarian filmmaker, he is a brash young star in the art world, but these seemingly dissimilar artists come together to create something wholly beautiful in the magnificent and universally acclaimed new film FACES PLACES. The 2018 Best Documentary Feature Oscar nominee, which “restores your faith” in “film culture and human nature” (Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post), arrives on Cohen Media Group Blu-ray and DVD, as well as digital platforms, on March 6, 2018.
Agnès Varda, one of the leading figures of the French New Wave who at 89 is still expanding cinematic frontiers, and the acclaimed 34-year-old French photographer and muralist known as JR team up to co-direct an enchanting documentary/road movie. Kindred spirits, Varda and JR share a lifelong passion for images and how they are created, displayed and shared. In FACES PLACES, they travel in JR’s photo truck to French villages, factories, docks, farms and anywhere else their spirits take them, meeting locals, learning their stories and producing epic-size portraits of them. The photos are then prominently displayed on houses, barns, storefronts and trains, revealing the humanity in their subjects as well as in Varda and JR themselves. FACES PLACES documents these heart-warming encounters, as well as the unlikely, tender friendship formed along the way by the two artists.
The film, produced by Rosalie Varda, the director’s daughter, and CMG Chairman and CEO Charles S. Cohen, won the Most Popular International Documentary award at the 2017 Vancouver International Film Festival. It was just nominated for the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.
FACES PLACES has garnered universal praise – and a remarkable “100% Fresh” rating at the film review site Rotten Tomatoes. Ty Burr of The Boston Globe cheered, “Anyone who can’t enjoy this wise and soulful film has to consider whether they’ve given up on the movies, and on life.” Adam Graham of The Detroit News concurred, calling it “a lively, fun, stirring tribute to art and its ability to touch people and bring souls together.” “FACES PLACES is truly a joyous documentary, and qualifies as a must-see for any lover of cinema,” said Christopher Schobert of The Buffalo News. Ann Hornaday of The Washington Post called it “a film of sheer joy, its exuberance surpassed only by its tenderness and purity of purpose.”
The Belgian-born French director Agnès Varda began her legendary career with the 1955 marital exploration La Pointe Courte, a forerunner to the New Wave, but secured her place as a major artist with her second film, 1962’s Cleo From 5 to 7, a profound and formally daring drama about a young singer waiting to find out if she has cancer. Varda has remained a prolific creator of urgent yet contemplative features, shorts and documentaries/cinematic essays, including such revered titles as Le Bonheur, Far From Vietnam, Vagabond, Jane B. by Agnès V., The Gleaners and I and, most recently, The Beaches of Agnès.
Over the past decade, the photographer and activist JR has established a unique position in the art world as a self-described “photograffeur” – a graffiti artist of sorts who posts his large photographic images in incongruous public spaces in an attempt to challenge conventional perceptions of advertising, the media and art itself. Praised as “the Cartier-Bresson of the 21st century” by Fabrice Bousteau of Beaux Arts magazine, JR was featured prominently in the recently aired Grammy Awards – he created the backdrop of giant eyes as U2 performed on a barge in New York Harbor near the Statue of Liberty.
Cohen Media Group’s FACES PLACES Blu-ray and DVD both contain a wealth of supplementary material, including “Chance Is the Best Assistant: Agnès Varda and JR on Faces Places,” a 46-minute interview with the filmmakers, and the original theatrical trailer.

GO BEHIND THE SCENES WITH COCO!

Nominated for the Academy Award® for Best Animated Feature and winner of 11 Annie Awards, Disney•Pixar’s Coco also finds its way onto 4K Ultra HD,™ Blu-ray,™ DVD and On-Demand on February 27.

Boldly Go Forth with Dakota Fanning in Please Stand By, Coming to Blu-Ray, DVD & Digital HD on May 1

The world is a confusing place for Wendy (Dakota Fanning). As a fiercely independent and brilliant young woman with autism, Wendy longs to leave the regimen of her group home and return to life with her sister’s family and their new baby, but she must first prove herself. As a lover of all-things-Star Trek, Wendy writes fantasy stories in her free time. To her, people are an indecipherable code, so she uses her Star Trek filter to understand them. When a screenplay competition presents itself, Wendy decides to finish her 500-page Star Trek script and enter. Now, the problem is getting it there. In order to meet the deadline, Wendy must travel hundreds of miles outside her protected boundaries to submit her script in person.

With her little dog Pete in her purse and a few dollars in her pocket, Wendy boldly goes where she has never gone before. And with her no-nonsense therapist (Toni Collette) and big sister Audrey (Alice Eve) following close behind, Wendy, with the help of some colorful friends she meets along the way, must learn how to follow her dream and find her place in a world she hopes will accept her …. Just like everyone else.

Directed by Ben Lewin (The Sessions) and starring Dakota Fanning, PLEASE STAND BY also stars Toni Collette and Alice Eve, and includes a special guest-appearance by Patton Oswalt.

Oscar-Nominated I, TONYA // Available on Digital March 2 and on Blu-ray March 13

Nominated for three Academy Awards® (Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Film Editing), I, Tonya is a darkly funny and entertaining examination of Tonya Harding, the most controversial figure in the history of figure skating, and the headline-grabbing scandal that mesmerized a nation. I, Tonya is available on Digital and the all-new digital movie app MOVIES ANYWHERE on March 2, 2018 and on Blu-rayTM, DVD and On Demand on March 13, 2018 from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment. Packed with more than 40 minutes of exclusive bonus content, the Digital, Blu-ray™, and DVD showcase deleted scenes and in-depth featurettes taking viewers behind the scenes of the film and its captivating story.

Spanning from Harding’s earliest days at the ice rink to the notorious “incident”, critics call I, Tonya “a hilariously tragic story of success so entertaining you can’t look away” (Eric Kohn, Indiewire). Presenting multiple, and at times contradictory, perspectives of the events, the film explores the ways public opinion can be permanently shaped by news agendas and tabloid culture. But beyond the headlines, I, Tonya tells a complex story of resilience and perseverance, as a rebellious working-class girl pursues her dream competing in a “ladylike” sport, only to be caught up in controversy and criminal circumstances created by her involvement with those closest to her.

Based on the incredible true events, I, Tonya is a darkly comedic tale of American figure skater, Tonya Harding, and one of the most sensational scandals in sports history. Though Harding was the first American woman to complete a triple axel in competition, her legacy was forever defined by her association with the infamous attack on fellow Olympic competitor Nancy Kerrigan.

Featuring Oscar-nominated performances by actress/producer Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad) as the fiery Tonya Harding, and Allison Janney (Girl on a Train) as her acid-tongued mother (2018 Golden Globe® Award-winner),
I, Tonya also stars Sebastian Stan (Captain America franchise) as Tonya’s impetuous ex-husband, Bobby Cannavale (“Boardwalk Empire”) and Julianna Nicholson (August: Osage County), and is directed by Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) from an original screenplay by Steven Rogers (P.S. I Love You).  The film offers an often absurd, at times irreverent, and always piercing portrayal of Harding’s life and career in all of its unchecked––and checkered––glory.
