HIDDEN, THE (1987)

THE HIDDEN REVIEWED

“The Hidden” is a fun script that translates into a dated movie. While it riffs on an alien cops and robbers sort of deal, Michael Nouri’s plot just weighs down the better movie. Whenever Kyle MacLachlan isn’t onscreen, everything about the movie grinds to a halt. Jack Sholder was one of the pillars of early New Line Cinema, but he always shot things in one way. If you watch the “Never Sleep Again” documentary, you realize that he’s probably the most straightforward journeyman ever to work at New Line.

Everything is surface level and there’s absolutely nothing hidden beneath the action onscreen. The kicker is that you get quality vintage Claudia Christian action. If you look hard enough, you’ll even spot a slightly less rugged Danny Trejo playing a prisoner. If Where’s Waldo in late 80s Sci-Fi thrillers isn’t your bag, then I don’t know what to tell you. Pick it up if you’re curious.
