HELLHOLE REVIEWED

“Hellhole” is a Women in Prison by way of asylum movie and the results are wonderful. While the film negative is gone for this little seen oddity, Scream Factory has worked miracles getting this release into HD. So, there will be some slight drop out on the transfer at points. I just wanted to make that clear, before people started whining about the consistency of the presentation. While the film runs short, some of the more squeamish will be put off by the torture.

That being said, classic horror fans will enjoy seeing genre mainstays Mary Woronov and Robert Z’Dar pop up throughout the film. While all of that is fun, there’s a reason why the movie has been forgotten. Outside of the terror and torture, there’s not a ton going on in the film. Judy Landers isn’t that great of a lead and Ray Sharkey doesn’t play intimidating enough. If you can look past that, you’re going to have a great time. Otherwise, this is a pass.

The Plot Thus Far

Having witnessed her mother’s brutal death, Susan (Judy Landers, Dr. Alien) gets amnesia from a fall while being pursued by the killer, Silk (Ray Sharkey, The Idolmaker). Awakening in Ashland Sanitarium, she is once again terrorized by Silk, disguised as an orderly. To pry an incriminating secret from Susan’s brain, Silk forms an uneasy alliance with Dr. Fletcher (Mary Woronov, Rock ’n’ Roll High School), a psychotic scientist who has been testing a new lobotomy technique, using helpless inmates as her guinea pigs. These vicious experiments are carried out in the “Hellhole,” a torture den awaiting Susan as its next victim.
