Mill Creek got a ton of Hammer films from Sony. But, they’re only on DVD. This first volume is pretty solid with stunning Christopher Lee efforts such as “The Gorgon” and “Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll”. But, it’s a standard definition only release in 2015. All of the films are presented in their original aspect ratios, but they appear to be crowded and slightly compressed onto two discs.
While this first release isn’t sporting super impressive films, I can see the set picking up in future installment. But, we’ve got to get Blu-Ray releases. Skimping on HD in the modern day doesn’t inspire confidence in the Home Theater enthusiast. The DVD comes with no special features. However, the A/V Quality is strong enough and sports Dolby Surround and Mono tracks when appropriate. In the end, it’s worth a purchase to the curious.
