Growing Younger Has Never Been Scarier: Horror Film “The Withering” Drains a Town Dry on Digital July 28

Cleopatra Venom and MVD Entertainment send Daniel J. Pico’s amulet-fueled nightmare to digital this summer, and the first trailer is here to set the mood.
Most horror films are afraid of getting older. The Withering flips that fear inside out and asks the far nastier question: what if the truly monstrous thing is getting younger? Cleopatra Venom, alongside MVD Entertainment Group, has set The Withering for a Digital Video release on July 28, 2026, and the premise alone is enough to earn this one a spot on my watchlist. A cursed amulet, a dying town, and aging itself recast as the villain. Sign me up.
An Amulet With an Appetite
Here is the hook that makes The Withering worth your time. Judith is an embittered woman in her seventies staring down a terminal cancer diagnosis when she acquires a strange amulet at an estate sale. The artifact is ancient, and it is hungry. It rejuvenates Judith’s body by siphoning the vitality out of the town around her, and as she grows younger, stronger, and more violent, her community rots in real time. Illness, decay, and death spread fastest among the youngest residents, which is exactly the kind of grim inversion good horror is built on.
Standing against her is Haley, Judith’s compassionate caregiver, who starts piecing together the truth right as she is cast aside and abandoned in a withering town. Her only ally is a troubled sister who can feel the amulet’s dark pull. When Judith’s hunger graduates from passive draining to outright murder, Haley is left racing to destroy the thing before it swallows everyone. It is a lean, mean premise, and a smart one: a horror film about the terror of aging, dressed up as a creature feature where the creature is a little old lady.
The Withering is directed and co-written by Daniel J. Pico, and stars Amelia Mahrie, Gareth Tidball, Debra J. Onsager, and David Bianchi.
Watch the Trailer
Cleopatra has dropped the official trailer ahead of the release, and it sells the rot nicely.

Where and When to Watch
Short and simple, since this is a digital launch.
- Release date: July 28, 2026
- Format: Digital Video, available to rent or own
- Distributors: Cleopatra Venom and MVD Entertainment Group
No physical edition has been announced yet, but given MVD’s involvement and its track record with genre discs, I would not be surprised to see The Withering surface on Blu-ray down the line. I will update this post if and when a disc release materializes.

The Official Synopsis
Judith, an embittered woman in her seventies facing a terminal cancer diagnosis, becomes obsessed with a strange amulet she acquires at an estate sale, an ancient artifact that rejuvenates her body by siphoning vitality from the surrounding town. As Judith grows younger, stronger, and more violent, the community around her rapidly deteriorates, with illness, decay, and death spreading among its youngest residents. Haley, Judith’s compassionate caregiver, begins to suspect the truth just as she is cast aside and left alone in a dying town, her only ally her troubled sister who senses the amulet’s dark pull. When Judith’s hunger escalates from passive draining to brutal murder, Haley races to destroy the artifact before it consumes everyone.
Where It Stands
The Withering hits Digital Video on July 28, with the trailer already out to whet the appetite. I will have a full AndersonVision review once the film is available, because a horror picture this committed to the dread of aging deserves a proper look. Until then, maybe skip the estate sales.
