“Getting That Girl” was cringe worthy in the way that most movies strive to avoid. A girl moves to a new school in her senior year, thus she has to deal with a couple of mean girls. But, it doesn’t matter since most of the dudes in her class want to bone her. Cut to two doofus or doofi? Well, these geniuses are competing to bang her. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have glasses to take off, so she doesn’t get to throw down that whole Rachel Leigh Cook “She’s All That” thing. But, she has a point to make about being a young woman in the modern era.
She doesn’t? So, I was just projecting some sense of hope upon this girl, as I slummed my way through this movie? I hate it when that happens! The film carries on and on with some of the most bizarre dialogue reads this side of Ryan O’ Neal acting in a Norman Mailer movie. I wish I was kidding, but I want to ask these people if they have some comprehension of the English language. A lot of writers gloat and have fun when they hammer down negative reviews, but this goes beyond that. I don’t have fun being negative, but I do love to throw up cautionary markers when I know that I can make people avoid a cineturd.
Like it or not, the whole movie is a quest to get the lead girl plowed. She eventually gets her wish in the way that most teen dramas allowed, but the journey getting there is beset by the inane nature of how fucking awful our society has become. While I would believe this was intentional, if I saw anything leading into this to lead me there. I just have to throw my hands up and wonder. I hate that I have spent this long thinking about this movie.
