Eager to become heroes, a group of five young friends gather together on the eve of Hitler’s invasion of the Soviet Union. Nothing could have prepared them for the extreme realities that await each and every one of them. As told through the eyes of young adults on the brink of adulthood in Nazi Germany, director Philipp Kadelbach and writer Stefan present a sweeping saga in the award-winning narrative GENERATION WAR. Produced over a period of eight years and filmed on over 150 sets across Germany, Lithuania and Latvia, GENERATION WAR is a stunning German epic drama spanning over five years beginning in Berlin in 1941 through the immediate aftermath of WWII in 1945.
Described as “ground-breaking” by The Guardian and “German Band of Brothers” by The Hollywood Reporter, Kadelbach’s film is a brave attempt to connect generations abroad as it follows a group of young friends forced to survive no matter the consequences. With 21 million viewers during its original television broadcast in Germany and Austria, GENERATION WAR became an immediate sensation and has been praised by German audiences who called the film “a turning point in German television.”
Among the quintet in GENERATION WAR are two brothers, Wilhelm (Volker Bruch) and Friedhelm (Tom Schilling), off to fight the war as soldiers under two very different outlooks, while their Jewish friend, Viktor (Ludwig Trepte), is about to face harsh severities, and two young women go off to make a difference, one as a nurse and the other determined to become a star. As this “shockingly realistic” (The Independent) film follows their ever-changing journey throughout the war, audiences are presented with a three-dimensional view with varying perspectives.
Nominated for ‘Best Narrative Feature’ at the 2014 Palm Spring International Film Festival and winner of the 2013 German Television Awards for ‘Best Miniseries,’ Music Box Films Home Entertainment presents the Blu-ray, DVD, and VOD debut of GENERATION WAR on May 6, 2014.
Bonus features on the Blu-ray and DVD disc of GENERATION WAR will include a panel with its creators and a special 12 page booklet containing photos, an essay and more. The Blu-ray and DVD disc will have a suggested retail price of $34.95 and $29.95,respectively.
