Gamera vs. Viras [Gamera Collection review]

Gamera vs. Viras might be my favorite Gamera film. Why? Well, because it dispenses with trying to be a monster movie and turns into a kid friendly romp. A group of aliens tells the Earth to surrender Gamera or face the consequences. So, Earth sends a boy scout troop to meet with the aliens. This goes as well as expected.

Gamera vs. Viras [Gamera Collection review] 1

Viras is a hive collective of squid aliens pretending to be human. Once they are exposed, they merge into the giant alien threat and begin attacked Gamera. What follows is some young kids working together to save the day. The alien design is cool, but that’s all I really have.

The Gamera Collection continues to roll on, as casual Kaiju fans might be getting tired. You get the alternate American version, featurettes, trailers and a ton more. At this point, just assume you’re getting the same special features for all of the classic Gamera movies. I’d recommend a purchase if you’re into these older films.

Gamera vs. Viras is available August 18th
