FORBIDDEN HOLLYWOOD REVIEWED
“Forbidden Hollywood” is one of my favorite continuing series on DVD. Warner Brothers keeps up amazing runs like this, while exploring a film library that’s barely hitting 20% released on Home Video. Most of the films presented in the 10th volume of Forbidden Hollywood deal with one thing…adultery. Everyone is sleeping with everyone else and the plot is found on the second page. Whether it’s a biopic or a hunt for Anastasia, these pre Code movies were all about who is schtupping who.
The film that really impressed me in the set was “Secrets of the French Police”. What could’ve been an adventure film turned into a Choose Your Own Adventure of never-ending plots. International cop drama, crime capers and a hunt for Anastasia power the film. What does it all mean? Well, nothing. But, it runs a little under an hour and never lets up. Hell, the longest film on this set is only 86 minutes long. Doesn’t that seem insane?
