Simon Callow is quite a capable lead, as he never pushes knowledge on the audience, but lets us glide between moments. The series slows down when it becomes obsessive over Gruber and Mohr’s destiny to bind their music together to form the Carol. It’s a wee bit obsessive, but they only had an hour.
