FEAR TOWN USA / THE SLASHENING REVIEWED
“Fear Town USA” is a low rent comedic take on Halloween. While there is a mystery involving the killer, I just don’t think this film was Troma worthy. When Lloyd slaps the Troma seal on you, I expect to see something amazing. I get that the emphasis is to give a voice to real Indie creators. However, this one just left me cold.
“The Slashening” is slightly better than the first film. It evokes the self aware slashers of the mid to late 1980s. However, it blends excellent consumer grade HD camera work with some rather inventive kills. Parts of it get a little too “The Town That Dreaded Sundown” for me. What the film excels in is keeping your focus for its entire run. That shouldn’t be so hard for a horror movie, but that’s where the genre has flatlined recently.
