THE FASTEST GUNS OF THE WEST REVIEWED
“The Fastest Guns of the West” is an 8 film collection of little-seen William Castle westerns. That’s right, people. Horror fiend William Castle was making Westerns for Columbia Pictures before he discovered his knack for creatures and maniacs. Shot between 1943 and 1956, the Westerns show that Castle had a great handle on story, but none of the aesthetic appeal he’d find later in horror. Most of the actors don’t do much to raise attention, but you’ll notice a lot of script conceits that Castle would later deploy. Truly fascinating discovery and I’m thrilled that Mill Creek released it.
