DIRTY DANCING (2017) REVIEWED
“Dirty Dancing” had a 2 hr and 15 minutes long adaptation this past Spring on ABC. I get that celebrating a film on its 30th anniversary is fun, but how did they make it 35 minutes longer? The cast was amazingly strong. I know that this will irk a small minority of readers, but Abigail Breslin plays a character while Jennifer Grey acts like a Broderick road victim. She was in the car! Look up the facts, people! Dublin 1987 Truth!
Back to the film…what can be said? They add new songs to the story and find a way to tone down most of the ethnic undertones of the era and location. You’ll still believe a rather plump girl can attract the attention of an older dance instructor. But, the concerned don’t care about that. They want to see Johnny lift Baby into the air. Hell, they just want to see faux dancing to Love is Strange. What am I doing here?
Seriously, what am I doing here? The film is getting a DVD release insanely close to its first airing, so that the window of appeal can still be achieved. Will it be remembered by this point? Probably not, but it doesn’t need to be. Enjoy your TV movie oddity, girls.
