Dinosaur Train embraces and celebrates the fascination that preschoolers have with both dinosaurs and trains while sparking an interest in life science, natural history, and paleontology.

The Pteranodon family is super excited to be traveling to the ‘Classic in the Jurassic’, an Olympics type competition in which different dinosaur teams representing the three Mesozoic time periods will compete in various contests.

Episodes include…
Classic in the Jurassic: Turtle and Theropod Race
Hungry, Hungry Carnivores
Classic in the Jurassic: Air Obstacle Race
King & Crystal Live!
Classic in the Jurassic: Air, Water and Land
Desert Day and Night
Classic in the Jurassic: Ultimate Face-off
Back in Time

“Classic in the Jurassic” is about dinosaur teams fighting out in various contests. The material is fun, but the educational level seems to go in the toilet. While I’ve never been a big fan of the show, I see that younger kids seem to be eating these episodes up with greater ferocity. I’m currently using a sample of three kids to test out of all the PBS Kids releases to determine proper fan response. I’m not sure if it’s working, since I’m going by random noises of approval to judge worthiness.

Dinosaur Train is one of the later Jim Henson concepts and it works in that realm that Cheryl and Brian Henson are trying to keep going. However, you don’t have that same level of personality. I enjoy what we’re seeing, but I can’t say that there is anything here to win over adult viewers. The Dr. Scott segments help put a lot of the material into context. Still, those segments are the shortest of any Dinosaur Train that I’ve seen.

The DVD comes with coloring pages, interactive game and activities as the special features. The A/V Quality is typical when compared to past Dinosaur Train releases. The Dolby Surround track carries the dialogue. Plus, the transfer is pretty clean for standard definition. In the end, I’d recommend a purchase to parents of young school-age kids.
