THE PLOT THUS FAR
The explosively popular Dexter is back with a vengeance for a sixth season of startling suspense and unexpected twists. It’s been a year since last season’s shocking and heartbreaking conclusion, and mild mannered criminologist-cum-grisly serial killer Dexter Morgan has come to terms with who he is. But his existence is shattered when he crosses paths with an enemy unlike any he’s faced before. A delusional religious zealot with unflinching convictions, this new adversary soon draws Dexter into a dangerous game that could well end in disaster.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
“Dexter” enters into its sixth season with a meh. There are the usual flashbacks to what has happened before, but this year’s focus is on a religious serial killer. We get the extended bullshit with the supporting cast and then it’s back to the freak of the season. John Lithgow was this show’s last gasp of creative air and it shows with each passing season. What will ever come of our serial killer melodrama?
Make no mistake, I believe the show should have ended in the third season. What I found to be the strongest element of this release was the unskippable opening promo that ruins the season in a couple of seconds. I should have stopped there and known what was coming. But, I moved further into the series and poor Colin Hanks tried to keep me interested. It’s just that I don’t care about Dexter anymore. As a former fan, it’s sad to say it. I have no investment left in this series.
The Blu-Ray comes with interviews and full episodes of “Californication”, “House of Lies” and “The Borgias”. I still can’t figure out what Showtime is planning on doing with its season releases. While it is an interesting strategy to get people interested in related series, it can always back fire. The A/V Quality is pretty strong with a DolbyTrue HD 5.1 track and a 1080p transfer. In the end, I’d recommed a purchase to fans.
