DANIEL BOONE: SEASON ONE

DANIEL BOONE: SEASON ONE 1

DANIEL BOONE REVIEWED

“Daniel Boone” was crafted for TV to capitalize on Fess Parker’s success as Davy Crockett in the two or three Disney movies he headlined. Unfortunately, Disney wasn’t willing to allow for a Crockett TV series and we ended up with Daniel Boone. While I come from the land of Boone, his exploits were only heavily promoted in the Eastern half of the state. Regular trips to Boonesborough didn’t dot my elementary school experience. We had Locust Grove and lengthy talks about our city starting as a French trade hub.

The show is a rather mid 1960s romp that could pass for any other TV western. The only thing that made it different was Parker acting like a slightly wilder take on Crockett. Native American characters got way more screen time, but you know what goes along with that. If you’re a fan of series from this era, you’ll be onboard. Everyone else will pass.
