Two of classic French cinema’s most iconic stars unite in THE BEAUTY OF THE DEVIL, master filmmaker René Clair’s retelling of the Faust legend. The Cohen Film Collection is making this rediscovered 1950 classic available for the first time ever in a newly remastered HD Blu-ray and DVD. An aging professor of alchemy (Michel Simon, L’Atalante, Boudu Saved From Drowning) makes a bargain with the Devil (Gérard Philipe, La Ronde, Fanfan la Tulipe) that will give him youth, fame and riches in exchange for his soul. Clair (À Nous la Liberté, And Then There Were None) creates an allegorical fantasy that is both whimsical and tragicomic, a rarely seen masterpiece that the New York Herald Tribune called “one of the great films.” Extras in this deluxe edition include a 2010 documentary featurette about the film and trailers.
