CLOVERFIELD (4K ULTRA HD)

CLOVERFIELD 4K REVIEWED

The last few weeks have seen a sudden love for Cloverfield. This was followed by a loud portion of the nerd population then besmirching the third installment. But, let’s take it back to the first movie. It’s now on 4K from the gang at Paramount. Some might ask why wait so long to release the first two Cloverfield films on 4K? I mean, it’s not like they were planning on dumping Cloverfield Paradox to Netflix.

The film holds up 10 years later. A giant monster attacks NYC and we get to watch young adults freak out as parasites and 9/11 imagery attack them at every angle. Lizzy Caplan gets to attack the resident goofball, while the gang risks their lives to save a booty call. One thing I still enjoy is the willingness to raise the body count. If a giant monster attacks a metropolis, I expect deaths in the thousands. Hell, I wanted to see more people getting trampled by giant Slusho sea monster.

Most of the special features and even the audio track seems to be a repackage from the Blu-ray. The 4K shines due to its transfer. While the film plays heavy in the realm of digital video simulation and night scenes, it still sings. You don’t get the clear cut definition of modern films making it to 4K. That being said, the release still pops and is well worth a purchase.
