What’s the Big Deal?
This isn’t just another City Hunter side quest. Angel Dust is being billed as the start of the franchise’s final chapter, and it reunites:
- Kamiya Akira (as the voice of Ryo, still somehow sounding like a man who sleeps in his clothes and wakes up ready to brawl)
- Ikura Kazue (Kaori Makimura, queen of the hammer-to-head callback)
Directed by Kayuyoshi Takeuchi and overseen by longtime franchise vet Kenji Kodama, this is a rare case of legacy anime being handed back to the people who made it matter in the first place.
The Plot (Because Even Gun-Comedy Has Lore Now)
Here’s the setup:
- Ryo and Kaori are hired by Angie, a beautiful filmmaker with a suspiciously boring problem: she lost her cat.
- Ryo wants to find her “cat.” Kaori wants to find the reward.
- Meanwhile, Saeko Nogami of the Metro Police is sniffing around Zoltech, a biotech firm creating enhanced soldiers using — wait for it — Angel Dust.
- Fans will remember Angel Dust as the drug that nearly killed Ryo and definitely killed his old partner Hideyuki Makimura.
The connection? You guessed it — Angie’s cute little cat problem is cover for something much bigger, possibly tied to Ryo’s entire origin story.
So yeah, come for the lechery, stay for the trauma.
